Getting started
What do I need to run Reefwell?
An iPhone running iOS 26 or later, which means iPhone 11 or newer. Reefwell is built for iPhone.
Do I need an account?
No. There’s nothing to sign up for. If you want sync, Reefwell uses the iCloud account already on your iPhone.
Is Reefwell free?
Yes. Logging is free and never capped, and so are charts, the journal, core alerts, reminders, iCloud sync, backups, and CSV export. Reefwell Pro is optional and adds more than 2 tanks, widgets, advanced alert rules, and themes.
Logging tests
How do I log a test?
Tap Log Test on the Dashboard or Trends tab. Enter values for any parameters you tested, skip the rest, and tap Save. You can log a whole round of tests on one screen.
I forgot to log a test. Can I add it for an earlier time?
Yes. In the Log Test sheet, tap the date and time at the top and change it before saving.
Which parameters can I track?
Alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, nitrate, phosphate, salinity, temperature, and pH are built in. You can add your own parameters with your own unit label, and turn any parameter on or off for each tank.
Can I change units?
Yes. Alkalinity can show in dKH, meq/L, or ppm; salinity in ppt or specific gravity; temperature in °F or °C; and concentrations in ppm or ppb. Changing a unit only changes how values are shown. Your logged values aren’t altered.
How do target ranges work?
Each parameter has a target range you can edit in Settings ▸ Parameters & Targets. The built-in ranges are typical starting points, not advice, so adjust them to your tank. Each reading then shows whether it’s in range, slightly off, or out of range, with a label and symbol as well as a color.
How do I edit or delete a reading?
Open the parameter’s chart and swipe on a reading in the list to edit or delete it. Deleted items stay in Settings ▸ Recently Deleted for 30 days in case you change your mind.
Alerts & reminders
What alerts does Reefwell have?
You can get alerted when a reading is out of your range, when a test is overdue, and with a nudge to retest after an off reading. Set them up in the Tasks tab. Reefwell Pro adds advanced alert rules.
How do reminders work?
Create reminders in the Tasks tab for things like water changes, testing, or maintenance. They can repeat every few days, on chosen weekdays, or monthly. When you complete a water-change reminder, Reefwell can add it to your journal.
I’m not getting notifications.
Check iOS Settings ▸ Notifications ▸ Reefwell and make sure notifications are allowed. Focus modes can also hold notifications back. Opening Reefwell refreshes its scheduled reminders.
Widgets
How do I add a Reefwell widget?
Widgets are part of Reefwell Pro. Touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and choose Reefwell. You can also add one to your Lock Screen by touching and holding the Lock Screen and tapping Customize.
iCloud sync, backup & export
How does iCloud sync work?
When you’re signed in to iCloud, Reefwell syncs your data through your private iCloud account, so it shows up on your other devices. You can check the status in Settings ▸ iCloud Sync. Reefwell works fully offline and syncs when you’re back online. Changes can take a few minutes to appear on another device.
My data isn’t syncing.
- Make sure you’re signed in to the same Apple Account on each device.
- Check that iCloud is turned on for Reefwell in iOS Settings, and that your iCloud storage isn’t full.
- Open Reefwell on both devices while connected to the internet, and give it a few minutes.
Does Reefwell back up my data?
Yes. Reefwell keeps automatic backups on your device. You can also export a backup file from Settings ▸ Backup & Export and save it somewhere safe, like Files or iCloud Drive. Automatic backups stay on the device, so if you delete the app, export a copy first.
How do I restore a backup?
Go to Settings ▸ Backup & Export and choose a backup. You can merge it with what’s already in the app, or replace everything (Reefwell asks you to confirm first).
Can I export my data?
Always. CSV export is free and works whether or not you have Pro. You can open the file in Numbers, Excel, or Google Sheets. Reefwell can also import CSV files, with a preview before anything is added and an option to undo the import.
I got a new iPhone. How do I move my data?
If iCloud sync is on, sign in with the same Apple Account and your data will sync over. If not, export a backup on your old iPhone, then restore it on the new one.
Your data & privacy
How do I delete my data?
Delete items in the app, and they’re removed for good after 30 days in Recently Deleted. To remove everything from a device, delete the app. To also remove your iCloud copy, open iOS Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, and manage your storage to delete Reefwell’s data. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Does Reefwell collect my data?
No. There are no accounts, ads, analytics, or tracking, and your data never comes to us. Read the Privacy Policy.
Purchases
How do I restore Reefwell Pro?
On a new device or after reinstalling, open the Reefwell Pro screen in Settings and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you’re signed in with the Apple Account you used to buy it.
What happens if my Pro subscription ends?
Nothing is locked or deleted. All your tanks stay viewable, loggable, and exportable. You just can’t add tanks beyond the free limit or use Pro-only features.
How do I cancel or get a refund?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Cancel in iOS Settings ▸ your name ▸ Subscriptions. For refunds, use Apple’s Report a Problem page.
